What is wet blasting and why is it used?
Wet blasting, also referred to as "vapor blasting", is a process utilized for precision surface finishing. It uses a combination of water, compressed air and fine abrasive media forced at the material at high velocity to remove rust, oxidation, oil, carbon build up, paint, old gasket material and more. Depending on the media used. The process can leave the finish dull or shiny. Wet blasting is also an excellent option to remove very fine burrs, tool marks, or for applications where an aesthetic, satin finish is preferred.
What are the advantages of wet blasting vs sandblasting?
Media is not embedded into the part as you have with sandblasting. Wet blasting is gentle. So gentle it will not remove fine casting part numbers. Wet blasting will not heat and warp thin sheet metal parts as does sandblasting. Wet blasting is safe on internal and external threads. Wet blasting works great at flushing oil out of old aluminum casted automotive and motorcycle parts, Leaves the part clean and free of any residue.
Is wet blasting environmentally safe?
Yes, since no harmful or toxic chemicals are used or needed. Wet blasting is environmentally and operator safe. Wet blasting is considered a "dustless" process. Therefore no breathing respirator is required for the operator. Wet blasting is performed inside a sealed blasting cabinet. No ventilation, protective clothing and a breathing respirator.
Where is wet blasting used?
